“We are trying to strengthen our police forces with the employment of new police recruits and this is the initial recruitment for the first semester of 2009,” Dir. Gen. Verzosa added.

In an interview with, Gen. Verzosa said that the decision to increase the number of policemen in the country is also in response to the possible rise of petty crimes since more people are losing jobs.

Next in line are Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 (Bicol Regional Police) with 550 slots, and PRO 7 (Central Visayas) and 12 (Central Mindanao) with 430 slots.
