Hundreds of jobseekers in Cebu marched to SM City Cebu for the 4th Trabaho sa Turismo fair held last March 13 to 14, 2009.

Organized by the Department of Tourism (DOT), the event provided job opportunities ranging from rank-and-file, junior associates to senior executive levels. Trabaho sa Turismo Expo is the only tourism-focused jobs fair in the country and it involves DOT-accredited local and foreign-based employers such as airlines, shipping and cruise companies, hotels, resorts, restaurants, travel agencies, tour operators, convention and exhibition centers, spa and wellness establishments, recruitment firms, golf clubs, malls and department stores, call centers and business process outsourcing firms, banks, schools, government agencies and entertainment outfits, among others.

For this year, 131 companies participated in the event where their total job vacancy amounted to almost 8,600.

During the event, DOT Secretary Joseph ‘Ace’ Durano said that the growth of Philippine tourism will pave the way to the creation of more jobs. Sec. Durano added that tourism can offer varied job levels to multitude of jobseekers ranging from professional, fresh graduates, and undergraduates.

The Manila leg of Trabaho sa Turismo will be held on May 22 – 23, 2009 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.
